Train Station Lighting

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

Railway Station, Westland St

As most standard High Bay lighting is inefficient,  it provides an excellent option to either increase light levels significantly or alternatively keep the same light level but save significantly on energy costs and achieve a quick payback.

Westland Row DART  (Dublin Area Rapid Transport)  station is one of the largest and busiest train stations in Dublin.  In this case, the operator opted to increase light levels significantly.  The existing standard High Bay lighting was removed and new high performance WideBays were installed.  No new wiring was required.

The new WideBay Luminaires also provides a higher level of vertical illumination in comparison with most Luminaires, typically 2 or 3 times greater.  This benefit provides  greater comfort and safety to users, as the visibility of the sides of the Train including the Doors are greatly enhanced.

Average re-lamping is at 20,000 hours and these 400w lamps provide almost 50,000 lumens output, so the scheme is highly efficient and also maintenance friendly.  The WideBay is widely used in Industrial High Bay projects and in Warehouses.   A recessed version is available for the Clean Room or Food Industries.

In most cases, VeeLite can advise (without any cost) whether your lighting is efficient or not.  Send us a photograph and the wattage and code on the Lamp (Bulb) and we can offer an opinion.

Stainless Steel Bollards

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

Michael St., Waterford

Robust stainless steel bollards ideal for pathway lighting were installed in several streets in Central Waterford.  These illuminated Bollards provide have a positive architectural effect as well as being functional.

Available in different heights and with LED or Compact Fluorescent lamps, these Luminaires can be supplied in either Aluminium or Stainless Steel.

Typical applications where these illuminated Bollards have been used include Hotels, Retail centres and corporate offices, typically at the entrances, driveways or carparks.  They can be  controlled by Occupancy Sensors to switch off or to switch to 10% output at periods when there is no traffic.

VeeLite manufacture a range of architectural Bollards and functional Bollards  and modifications in height, method of installation, lamp source, RAL finish are usually available.

Illuminated Poles

Irishtown Garda Station

Architectural Illuminated Poles with stainless steel finish were supplied to this central Dublin Police (Garda) Station.  The Project was a winner of an architectural award in 2009.

The 2.2m high illuminated Poles are constructed with a 1.2m Stainless Steel Base and a 1m acrylic frosted lens.  These Eye-catching Features draw attention to the entrance of the Building as well as providing some local illumination.

These ‘Wand’ Luminaires can be made to order with different heights and different lamp sources including colour changing LEDs.  Typical installations include Hotels, corporate offices, Parks and civic areas, pedestrian areas and retail centres.

Stadium Lighting

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

Dundalk Greyhound Stadium

At Dundalk Greyhound Stadium, the  Track lighting achieves High light levels with very good uniformity, essential for both Spectators and for the television cameras.

Excelite Stadium Lighting Luminaires  are ideal for Track lighting such as this.  The lighting Poles were positioned to minimise visual obstructions for spectators in the main stadium Building (from where the photo was taken).  Extra long bespoke Outreach brackets were used on the near side.

Similar Stadium Track Lighting schemes were installed at Cork and Galway Stadiums.  VeeLite recently supplied the new Limerick Greyhound Stadium (Opening 2011) with its Track lighting and its car park lighting.

Area Floodlighting

Friday, December 18th, 2009

Perth Visitor Centre

The Aktra luminaire for Area Floodlighting  provides high performance light output, restricts glare and has minimal backspill.  These features made it ideal for the Visitors Centre in Perth, Scotland.

The Aktra Area Floodlights were used along the Perimeter to illuminate the entrance road.  The site was alongside a busy street, so it was important not to allow glare or light spill to distract passing motorists.

In the carparks, VeeLite Supralites were used.  The overall scheme has good light levels and uniformity, but with minimum Poles and clutter.  Typically VeeLite would illuminate a car park of 100m x 100m size with only 4 Poles/Luminaires.  This provides significant savings in Poles, luminaires, installation, trenching, wiring etc as well as ongoing savings in energy and maintenance.

Swimming Pool lighting

Friday, December 18th, 2009

University Limerick

The Swimming Pool lighting at this University of Limerick facility provides robust, low maintenance, and energy saving lighting.

VeeLite offers several different solutions to Swimming Pool lighting including Floodlighting and in this case – High Bay lighting.

High illumination levels with good uniformity were a basic requirement for this olympic sized swimming Pool.  The University has a special emphasis on Sports training.

The low glare Luminaires are located in 4 rows so they can be accessed for relamping easily.  The outside rows can be accessed from the sides.  The 2 central rows can be accessed from the central overhead gangway which runs the length of the Pool.

Similar lighting was also used to illuminate an adjoining complex including Basketball Courts, Tennis Courts, a Sprint Track and a Jogging Track.

Basketball Arena

Friday, December 18th, 2009

National Basketball

For Sports Hall lighting, the VeeLite IL series has some significant advantages.  The National Basketball Stadium in Dublin (above) is an example.

This robust High Bay lighting Product has the usual high performance and low maintenance features you would expect from VeeLite, but in addition, there is an extra low glare Reflector system for Sports Hall lighting.

With heavy duty IP65 die cast construction and a 6mm tempered glass lens, the Luminaire is used widely in Sports Halls and swimming pools, as well as industrial lighting projects.

High Bay Lighting

Friday, December 18th, 2009

Louisiana Pacific

For High Bay lighting above 10m height, specialised High Bays are required.  This would often include large Factories, Aircraft Hangars and Power Stations.

The High Bay lighting in this Louisiana Pacific industrial facility is mounted up to 30m high and in 1000w version to minimise installation costs, as well as maintenance and relamping.   Because of the heavy duty construction of these Luminaires, they are particularly suited towards tough industrial lighting environments.

The Robust IL Series High Bay has die cast IP65 construction,  6mm tempered glass lenses, and an adjustable reflector systems which can be aimed on site (without opening the Luminaire). This is so the light can be focused into a wide or narrow beam to suit the lighting requirements below.

Architectural Feature

Friday, December 18th, 2009

600-B&Q-2

Architectural Feature Lighting was a requirement on the Belgard Retail Park in South West Dublin.  Large steel reflectors in a white finish were supplied to fit existing pillars and to add a dramatic night time effect to this retail complex.

These bespoke lighting Products transformed this site from an otherwise bland exterior to a unique architectural retail centre, which  attracts the attention of a high volume of  passing traffic.  This is an advantage to B&Q and the other retailers who benefit from the extra traffic it generates to their stores.

Unusually for VeeLite, this architectural feature lighting does not provide any functional lighting to the car park, it merely acts as a beacon to potential shoppers.

VeeLite have supplied many similar Bespoke Products, mainly involving external Poles or large Metal construction.  Details and estimated costs on request, without obligation.

Multi Storey Car Park Lighting

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

Sterling Thistle

Multi-storey car park lighting at the Thistle Retail Centre in Stirling, Scotland was provided by using c. 300 Parklite luminaires.

The robust long life and low maintenance of the Luminaires is ideal where access to the Luminaires is difficult.    Multi-storey car park lighting is sometimes achieved by having robust Luminaires such as the Parklite in the busy areas (entrance, ground floor, ramps etc) and having Sensor controlled Luminaires (such as VeeLites Parksave or Parkdisc) in areas with little traffic.

The high performance optics provide wide spacings between Luminaires with good uniformity. Together with the high lumen package available (up to 20,000 lumens), the glare control provided by the shielded optics, and the uplight component to avoid the ‘cave effect’, the Parklite ensures internal carparks are well illuminated and minimal in appearance, due to the low quantity of luminaires.

Warehouse Lighting (Aisle)

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

Dairygold Warehouse

Warehouse lighting typically requires Sensor controlled  lighting for the  individual Aisles.  The Open Area may use the same lighting but would not usually be Sensor controlled as it is busy all the time.  In ABB above, the Warehouse Aisle lighting is with energy saving Racklyters.

With 20 Aisles and a Warehouse Staff of only 3, this means that the individual Aisles are empty over 85% of the time.  In this case, a 6 month payback was provided.   Refitting from other forms of lighting will usually provide significant energy savings and typically a 6 – 12 month payback in lighting costs.

These T5 Luminaires are supplied with optional integrated Occupancy Sensors so they switch on instantly if someone (or a Truck) passes underneath.  An adjustable time delay switch ensures the lighting only switches off after the Aisle has been vacant for a sufficient period.

Energy savings, longer lamp life and less maintenance are the benefits.   Emergency is also offered as an option.

Other recent lighting customers include Johnson & Johnson, Merck Sharpe & Dohme, Glanbia, etc.

If you require a cost or Proposal for Warehouse Aisle lighting, please send an email to info@veelite.com

Architectural Car Park Lighting

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

CityWest

Architectural car park lighting was required for a new facility at the upmarket CityWest Business Campus near Dublin.   Merrion Luminaires with 150w Metal Halide lamps, on  7m Columns with a Black finish and with VeeLite ‘Corinthian’ brackets were installed to meet this requirement.

Several hundred of these fittings have now been installed in this large Campus which is a home to many leading  companies including Abbott Laboratories, AOL, Xilinx, Independent Newspapers, Unilever, United Drug and many more.

The high performance street optic can minimise the quantity of Luminaires and Poles needed for a Street or Road type application, typically by a third when compared with standard Luminaires.   Together with competitive pricing, it is one of the most economical ways to achieve both architectural car park lighting or architectural street lighting.

The Luminaire is typically used in Retail, Hotel and urban car park and street applications.

Energy free Wind/Solar Lighting

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

Ecolight Nightime

A Wind powered and solar lighting system for Kilbrannish Hill car park was recently supplied to the Local Authority. VeeLites Eco Series consists of an 8m Pole with Wind Turbine, Solar Panel, LED Streetlight, Occupancy and Daylight Sensor, and a Battery and Control system.   A solar street lighting system by itself was not though adequate as the car park is in use throughout the Winter, when lighting is most required.

The car park is used by Tourists and Locals for Walking, Bird Watching, walking Dogs and general sight seeing.  However, many people were returning to the carpark in complete darkness which was both a discomfort and a safety concern.  The nearest electricity point was several Kilometres away.

This Stand alone, energy-free system installed in 2009 switches on the LED streetlight Luminaire once there is movement nearby.  It stays on for several minutes after it last detects any movement.  It was designed for 2 hours operation per night and has a 2 week battery backup.

VeeLite also supply dedicated solar street lighting Luminaires which are designed for mainly summer time applications.
