Train Station

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

Railway Station, Westland St

Westland Row DART  (Dublin Area Rapid Transport)  station is one of the largest and busiest train stations in Dublin.

The original High Bay lighting was recently replaced with a scheme of WideBays.   This has significantly improved light levels and uniformity. The WideBay Luminaire also has another advantage in that it provides a higher level of vertical illumination in comparison with most Luminaires, typically 2 or 3 times greater.  This benefit provides  greater comfort and safety to users, as the visibility of the sides of the Train including the Doors are greatly enhanced.

Average re-lamping is at 20,000 hours and these 400w lamps provide almost 50,000 lumens output, so the scheme is highly efficient and also maintenance friendly.  The WideBay is widely used in Industrial High Bay projects and in Warehouses.   A recessed version is available for the Clean Room or Food Industries.

These Slotted Bollards are available in different heights and with LED or Compact Fluorescent lamps.  The Luminaire can be supplied in Aluminium or Stainless Steel.

Other applications where these Bollards have been used include Hotels, Retail centres and corporate offices, typically at the entrances, driveways or carparks.  They can be  controlled by Occupancy Sensors to switch off or to switch to 10% output at periods when there is no traffic.

These Luminaires can be made to order with different heights and different lamp sources including colour changing LEDs.  Typical installations include Hotels, corporate offices, Parks and civic areas, pedestrian areas and retail centres.

Similar schemes were installed at Cork and Galway Stadiums.

The Excelite is also available with a Street light optic which is ideal for roadway or carpark illumination.

Area Floodlighting

Perth Visitor Centre

The Aktra luminaire provides high performance light output, restricts glare and has minimal backspill.  These features made it ideal for the Visitors Centre in Perth, Scotland.

The Aktra Floodlights were used along the Perimeter to illuminate the entrance road.  The site was alongside a busy street, so it was important not to allow glare or light spill to distract passing motorists.

In the carparks, VeeLite Supralites were used.  The overall scheme has good light levels and uniformity, but with minimum Poles and clutter.

In the same Building, IL Series Luminaires are also used to illuminate an internal complex including Basketball Courts, Tennis Courts, a Sprint Track and a Jogging Track.

The IL Series is highly robust with IP65 sealing and lamps to 1000w Metal Halide or HPS.  It is widely used in Industrial and Warehouse applications, power stations, etc.  A bespoke recessed version is used in the 80,000 seater Croke Park Stadium for the Stand illumination.

Multi Storey Car Park

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

Sterling Thistle

The internal carpark at the Thistle Retail Centre in Stirling, Scotland was illuminated using over 300 Parklite luminaires.

This type of illumination is ideal in busy retail carparks where vacancy rates are low and switching by occupancy sensor would not be suitable.

The high performance optics provide wide spacings between Luminaires with good uniformity. Together with the high lumen package available (up to 20,000 lumens), the glare control provided by the shielded optics, and the uplight component to avoid the ‘cave effect’, the Parklite ensures internal carparks are well illuminated and minimal in appearance, due to the low quantity of luminaires.

Warehouse Aisle

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

Dairygold Warehouse

Dairygold is one of the largest Food Processors in Ireland and is based in Mitchelstown, County Cork.

In the Warehouse areas, the individual Aisles are illuminated with Racklyters with T5 lamps.  These were supplied with the optional integrated Occupancy Sensors so they switch on instantly if someone (or a Truck) passes underneath.  An adjustable time delay switch ensures the Luminaires do not switch off until the Aisle underneath has been vacant for a sufficient period of time.

Energy savings, longer lamp life and less maintenance are the benefits. VeeLite can also supply versions which can be controlled by a single powerful remote Sensor which would be more appropriate for large open rooms. An Emergency version is offered as an option.

Other recent customers for Racklyters include ABB, Johnson & Johnson, Merck Sharpe & Dohme, Glanbia, Cork Institute of Technology, etc.

Several hundred of these fittings have now been installed in this Campus. The Luminaire is also popular with Hotels, Retail centres and for general road and street lighting.  It has a high performance street optic to minimise the quantity of Luminaires and Poles needed for a Street or Road type application.

Wind & Solar Lighting

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

Ecolight Nightime

The Eco Series System supplied to this Local Authority carpark consisted of an 8m Pole, Wind Turbine, Solar Panel, LED Streetlight, Occupancy and Daylight Sensor, and a Battery and Control system.

The Carpark was used by Tourists and Locals for Walking, Bird Watching, walking Dogs and general sight seeing.  However, many people were returning to the carpark in complete darkness which was both a discomfort and a safety concern.  The nearest electricity point was several Kilometres away.  This Stand alone system installed in 2009 switches on the LED Luminaire once there is movement nearby.  It stays on for several minutes after it last detects any movement.  It was designed for 2 hours operation per night and has a 2 week battery backup.
